Exhaust Side Project - Step 1

The GTR Exhaust Side Project is under way, what does this entail.. Well I'll try and put it into a few simple points..

  • Replace the Stock restrictive front pipe and aftermarket dump pipe with the GReddy Extension pipe set as pictured here ..
  • Weld/Repair leaks in the exhaust manifolds.
  • Ceramic Coat the turbo exhaust housings, manifolds and extension pipes.
  • Replace all gaskets in the area.
  • Repair/replace oil and water lines as necessary
  • Clean and polsih the heat sheilds so that they reflect heat as well..
Well I made a start, what was I waiting for?? The PEAK Xmas Lights Cruise, which was held on 24 Dec 05, was the last reason to have the car on the road for quite some time. So on Christmas Day I made a start (boring I know, but no family for 4500kms will do that to you, also being on call doesn't help.)

Okay so far there are two casualties, a few minor issues and some bad possibilities that came to fruition..
Casualties were two bolts, one snapped off if the rear turbo inducer, but it is just a mount for a hose I don't use, so I don't care, the other is a mount for the recirc pipes, probably going to be need to be cut off..
Minor issues are the water pipes that are frozen in, this was expected as I had issues with this earlier, I might have to go nuts on them though to get them out..
Bad Possibilities is the cracks in the Exhaust manifolds, this WAS expected, but both manifolds?? In the same place.. Well I have taken some pics to show what it is all about.. Here ..

Not quite sure if the manifolds are actually stainless, but I will know more once I get them out, I will also be able to tell wether the cracks were formed by expansive or compressive forces. Which will have an effect on how I handle the repair and the the way that I handle the heat afterwards. Maybe the wrap was a bad idea, maybe the welds can;t handle the heat I am putting into them (900 deg C) on full noise. Maybe the restrictions further down the line are putting excessive pressure into the manifold.

More later.

Why is a Duck when it swims?? The Higher it gets the Much!!

Update

Well it has been a little busy lately, putting things together, installing other stuff, getting everything together.. Back on call soon, so hope to get some more things done.

The TEIN EDFC has been installed, all but about 5%. The Motors are on the coilovers and the head unit is temp wired into a power source, this was mostly due to time constraints and the want to test it before I went too far. The effect that this unit has is exceptional, it goes from "almost standard car like" to "bone jarring you're going to die" at the press of a button and everywhere in between. It really is nice to get on the highway and soften it right up and just relax behind the wheel rather than be shaken to pieces. Hoping to finalise the installation of the head unit soon.

The Do-Luck Rear Cross Brace came in the other day, in the November Purchases I put the pictures of it on my Kitchen floor and at the below link is pics of it int he car.. Mmm nice hey..
Do-Luck Rear Cross Brace Installation
It is quite Large, with some 47mm pipe being used.. Never thought it would be that large.. Also it is in a great place to annoy the living daylights out of the passengers in the rear seat.. Oh well Stuff em..

Will be putting some items For Sale soon I think as the Japanese Yen is at a really good exchnage rate right now, it would be nice to get those J orders out of the way now while purchases from Takakaira and Greenline are at a really good exchange rate. The shopping list is quite long, but that's okay, I will just chip away at it slowly.

A couple of fairly major cruises for PEAK latley, with the first official cruise since the restructure out to Pt Samson Pics Here and then just recently the Toy Run 05 organised by the Karratha Bikers Association. Great events, hoping to ahve more soon..

The PEAK site is coming along okay, some more work in the background is bringing it along nicely. Hopefully it will become more usable, navigable and worthwhile in the near future.. So if Links don't work, try going from the home page here - PEAK ...
